CFINE recently announced that they have been donated £11,642 through their fundraising food challenge, Appetite for Change. The organisation encouraged the community to try to live with only £2 a day for five days to raise awareness of food insecurity.
Thirty challengers took part in the fundraiser and collected funds through sponsorships in order to help the underprivileged families of Aberdeen. The participants confessed to CFINE that, while it is possible to live with £2 a day, it would be hardly manageable to do it for weeks on end.
The fundraiser took place during the #ChallengePoverty week between the 5th and 9th of October 2020. #ChallengePoverty week is organised by The Poverty Alliance in Scotland and aims to build awareness to end the stigma around poverty and celebrates innovative solutions.
CFINE Chief Executive Lisa Duthie explains that the fundraiser was even more important this year: "As a result of coronavirus and the oil downturn, many families in Aberdeen are pushed to the brink. From March to October alone, we delivered over 46,300 emergency food parcels with the help of our partners, which is more than double of the parcels that CFINE distributed during last year".
The charity expects a further increase in the need for emergency support over the Christmas period and asks for help from the community. You can can see how you can support CFINE by following this link: https://www.cfine.org/Listing/Category/support-our-cause
